I’m
still on holiday and have managed to do a little bit of sign practice while
over here, but it has been really hard to stay motivated to learn. I have been surrounded by family, friends
pretty much everyday catching up with people and going out and doing
things. Plus the weather has been fantastic;
the last thing I want to do is sit inside by the computer and practice sign
language. Bec and I were going to
organise a Skype session while I’m here in Perth, which would have addressed
some of the motivational issues, but with the time difference, it has just been
too difficult to coordinate. When
reflecting on my engagement in my chosen occupation, the holiday period has
definitely impacted on my ability to stay focused and on the time available to
participate. I am thinking this is a
type of occupational disruption? But, to
be honest it doesn’t really affect me. I
suppose because I don’t need to communicate via sign language, I have my speech
as a main form of communication, and I also don’t hold the same meaning to sign
language as possibly someone who uses it everyday. I would imagine, if a person who uses sign
constantly has occupational disruption, this would impact on all areas of their
lives as communication is an essential part of displaying your needs, voicing
your concerns and opinions.
Hi Roxanne! Your blogs were easy to follow your posts so not to worry. Looks like you gained a good friend out of the process. Cheers,
